Do you offer BOTOX?
This is a question we get asked regularly by our patients. Most people don’t realise that the word ‘Botox’ is a trademarked name for a specific botulinum toxin type A product. Due to BOTOX’s market dominance (and large marketing budget!) over the years, it has become synonymous with ‘facial rejuvenation’.
It’s abit like ‘Google’ being synonymous with doing a web search. You’ll often hear people say that they’re ‘Googling’ something when what they mean is that they’re searching for something online. Google isn’t the only search engine available (there are others such as BING) and BOTOX isn’t the only botulinum toxin A product - there are other brands available, including Vistabel, Dysport, Bocouture, and Azzalure. So, when we someone asks whether we offer BOTOX what they’re really asking is ‘Do you offer treatments for the lines and wrinkles’ (to which our answer is ‘YES’!)
BOTOX is a prescription only medicine which means that we can’t (and don’t) offer it directly to the public. After your consultation for the treatment of lines and wrinkles, we will always recommend the best product to suit your case.
What is Botulinum Toxin?
Botulinum Toxin has been used for 25 years and is a type of purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium. It is very safe and is injected directly into the facial muscles in tiny amounts during treatment.
How does it work?
Botulinum Toxin (BTX) works by blocking the transmission of nerve impulses to the facial muscles that have been injected. This makes the muscles less active and therefore softens and smoothes the appearance of persistent lines and wrinkles.
How many treatments will I need?
In most cases patients see a real difference after one treatment. Because every face is unique you will be advised how many treatments you are likely to need. This is also dependent on the results you wish to achieve and the success of each treatment.
How long does Botulinum Toxin work for?
The effects can last up to 4 months, depending on the patient. If you decide to stop treatment, any permanent lines and wrinkles will gradually return.
Is the treatment painful?
It is very rare for treatment with Botulinum Toxin to be painful. Most paitients experience only slight discomfort during treatment. Many feel almost nothing at all. But please do not worry. We will let you know exactly what to expect before any treatment proceeds.
I’m worried I will end up with a ‘trout pout’?
Rest assured, following an extensive assesment, our aim is to meet your expectations without over-contouring lips. We always treat conservatively so the only person who knows you’ve had treatment... is you.
Can I go back to work after the procedure?
Following BTX injections you should see nothing more than a little redness on your skin which subsides over a few hours. Dermal Filler injections may cause temporary mild bruising or swelling and therefore you may wish to take the afternoon off work.
